Charlie Rees' takes Checkered Flag
by
Ted Tappett

Dayton Motorcycle Club member and long time representative to the
District #11 Southern Ohio Motorcycle Association from the D.M.C., passed
Away at around 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 1st, at his home, North of New Carlisle.
Charlie served as Dirt Track chairman for many years for the District due to his
vast experience in flat track competition. Charlie's brother, Don Rees', won the
"Red Phillips" Ohio Hall of Fame as a Novice, Amateur, and Expert Class rider
with their Dad, Bill, and Charlie on the wrenches. Charlie's two Sons, Eddie and
Ray continued the Rees' family tradition in flat tracking until they retired from the
sport.
Several hundred people, who were family, friends, neighbors, Club members,
representatives of the "Special Wish Foundation", "Big Brothers/Big Sisters
Foundation", and an Honor Guard from the United States Navy were present at the
Services at the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, West of Donnelsville.
The grave side service was a tribute to Charlie's devotion to his family, his Club,
and his country, many a tear rolled down the cheeks of those in attendance as the
Naval Honor Guard ended the ceremony with the playing of the traditional military
bugle call at a fallen comrade's funeral. Taps. The folded flag was then presented
his widow, Edna Rees' and family.
Charlie's devotion to his Club is almost without precedence, joining the Club in
1954 and setting an example on what it takes to be a member-in-good-standing by
hard work, encouraging others, helping new members, and most of all, his good
humor, logical opinions during Club meetings, and the produce from the farm. The
youngsters in the Club just loved Charlie because Charlie loved them and never
Hesitated to pat them of the head or give them one of his special "Bear Hugs".
Charlie will be missed by all that knew him but he will stay in our hearts as long
as one of us remains alive.
That's Thirty"
